ThIs nettle yarn is  made from stinging Himalayan Nettle Plant which grows on very high altitudes in India. All processes of making this yarn are done by all women by hand.

This yarn can be used for different crafts like knitting , crotchet,weaving etc to create unique products. due to its uneven texture it gives very different look to the end product.

About Nettle Yarn:

Nettle is the fibres from the Common Stinging nettle – Urtica Dioica Himalayan Nettle (Girardinia Diversifolia)
Himalayan Nettle growing on a commercial basis is a possible ‘carbon neutral’ natural fibre with no waste.
They produce high quality fibre – strong, versatile, and a good length for spinning. And no, they don’t sting.
Nettle fabric is bio-degradable and 100% sustainable.Nettle is one of the most Eco friendly fiber. It grows in abundance naturally and does not require extra water for irrigation.

PROCESS OF MAKING NETTLE YARN :

• Wild nettle is collected from remote high Himalayan ranges. 1-3 days walk from village for collection and then back to village.
• The bark from the plants is collected and then drying of bark for 2-3 days and then it is left in natural river water for 7-10 days.This is called retting process .
• Then boiling of bark and cleaning with water and separation of fibers.
• Carding and then spun yarn is produced in villages by women.
